From the owner: Combating the threat of respiratory disease
Hi everyone,
I’m certain by now everyone has heard of the respiratory disease that has been in the news recently. It’s been named Atypical Canine Respiratory Disease Complex (CRDC). While it shares the same general symptoms of CRDC commonly known as kennel cough, in some cases, it doesn’t respond to the regular treatments.
We have always taken respiratory diseases seriously here at Planet Pooch. We are among the few facilities in the area that has insisted on the Canine Influenza Vaccine (CIV) since 2018. And it’s why we originally designed the playgroup areas with large open windows and cross-ventilation to ensure maximum air exchange.
To combat this latest canine threat, we are treating rooms with commercial ozone generators and UV lighting when dogs and people are not in the area. We have started using a commercial humidifier to mitigate unhealthy dry air. We have covered the breezeway to increase our ability to let dogs play outdoors even in light rain, where the disease risk is less. And we have the room to isolate dogs who become ill while boarding.
Our enhanced hygiene measures are working: we have had ZERO reported kennel cough or CIV cases this season. It’s the first season without any cases since our opening in 1999.With that, we would like to invite anyone that has had concerns to consider coming back for regular attendance.
Thank you for your attention,
Dan
